Beside the Caregiver
Feb 27, 2026
Most of the attention goes to the patient.
And of course it does.
But someone else is there too.
At every appointment.
Every long night.
Every quiet moment where they’re trying to be stronger than they feel.
Caregivers are often asked how they’re doing.
They just don’t always answer honestly.
Not because they want to hide.
Because they don’t want to make it about themselves.
If someone you love is caring for a person with cancer right now, small things matter more than big ones.
Check in after the first wave of messages fades.
Offer something simple.
A meal.
An errand.
Time to step outside alone.
And if they say they’re fine, you can still say,
“I hear you. I’m here.”
Sometimes what helps most is knowing someone won’t quietly disappear.
