Dear Caregiver, You Don’t Have to Carry Everything Yourself

Jan 21, 2026

When someone you love is walking through cancer, it’s very easy to slip into one quiet promise:

“I’ll handle it. All of it.”

Appointments, medication, rides, meals, updates, paperwork, cleaning, late–night worries…

You start picking things up one by one, and before you notice, your arms are full.

As a caregiver, I want you to hear this clearly:

You don’t have to carry everything yourself to prove you love them.

Love is not measured by how exhausted you are.

In fact, some of the most loving things you can do are very simple:

Let a friend bring a meal instead of cooking from scratch.
Allow the house to be “good enough” instead of perfect.
Say “yes” when someone offers to sit with them so you can step outside for a walk.

These are not signs that you’re failing.
They’re signs that you’re human.

The person you’re caring for doesn’t need a superhero.

They need you – present, steady, and as healthy as you can be.

Today, if you’re a caregiver, I’d encourage you to choose one small way to lighten your load.

You are doing something beautiful and important.
And you don’t have to do every part of it alone.
