Showing Up Matters

Jan 29, 2026

When someone you care about is facing cancer, it’s natural to question yourself.

You wonder if you said the right thing,
if you reached out too much or not enough,
if what you offered made any real difference.

That uncertainty is part of caring.

What I’ve learned is that presence carries more meaning than most people realize.

People don’t remember every word.

They remember who stayed connected.

They remember who didn’t pull away when the situation felt uncomfortable or hard to name.

Being present doesn’t require solving anything or offering a perfect response.

It simply means you remain there, steady and sincere, without asking anything in return.

For someone walking through cancer, that steadiness matters, even when they don’t respond right away.

If you’re supporting someone right now, let yourself breathe a little easier.

Staying present, in whatever way you can, matters.
