What to say when it hits

If someone tells you they have cancer, most people freeze.
Here are a few things that help:
“Thank you for trusting me.”
“Do you want this kept private?”
“I’m here.”
“What would support look like right now?”
You do not need perfect words.
You need presence.
That’s true in families. It’s true in friendships. And it’s true at work.
